Tutor Responsibilities to Learners

  • To welcome Learners and to reassure them that they are in an adult learning environment where no question is a stupid question and where mutual respect is required
  • To inform Learners of the course outline and how the course will be delivered
  • To issue all Learners with a copy of the Module Descriptor for the course being delivered and to answer any queries arising from it
  • To advise the Learner what they can expect as well as what we expect from them
  • To issue the Learner Handbooks
  • On Care Skills Modules, to encourage Learners to reflect on their learning from each session and to identify what worked well for them, what they learned, what they would do differently if they had to do a particular exercise again, how they will use the learning in their caring situation and to maintain a record of this in their portfolios. 
  • To maintain a register of attendance
  • To complete a Learner Contact Form so that in event of cancellation of a session that learners can be contacted
  • To ensure the course application forms are kept on file so that next of kin or learners Doctor can be contacted if required
  • To prepare Assignment Briefs, Skills Demonstration sessions and marking schemes so that learning can be evidenced
  • To provide Learners with details of the Assignment Briefs, Skills Demonstration sessions and marking schemes so that they are aware of what they will be assessed on, how they will be assessed and when this will be carried out
  • To provide Learners with sufficient notice of deadlines for return of assignments and/or sufficient notice of assessment deadlines
  • To provide Learners with feedback and guidance on their draft assignments
  • To mark assignments or skills demonstrations in accordance with marking schemes
  • To provide Learners with relevant course materials to support their learning
  • To ensure that assessments are adapted where necessary and reasonable so that we cater for the needs of Learners with specific difficulties
  • To obtain signature of Learner for return of portfolios or assignments and to draw the Learners attention to the fact that they are signing to state that the assignments are their own work 
  • To ensure the Pre-Course and Post-Course questionnaire is completed by Learners and returned to the Training Unit together with all other paperwork
  • Ensure all portfolios or assignments are checked and are complete before submitting them to the Training Unit 
  • To sign and return the Return of Materials sheet with portfolios and other relevant information to the Training Unit 
  • To complete FETAC Lesson Plans for each session and return it to the Training Unit
  • To submit a course timetable to the Training Unit
  • To complete a Tutor Self-Evaluation Form at the end of the Course and return it to the Training Unit
  • If examinations are to be used as part of a course, the tutor should contact the Training Unit for guidelines on how to conduct an examination
  • To submit invoice to The Training Unit with appropriate details as outlined on the Invoice Template
  • To advise the Training Unit of any issues, problems or challenges and to make recommendations that will enhance delivery of quality training
  • To adhere to Training Unit policies and procedures
  • To advise the Training Unit of any accidents or incidents and complete any paperwork allocated for that purpose
  • To advise the Training Unit of any student who appears to be having difficulties (disability, reaching standard required for assessment or assignments, literacy, cultural, emotional etc) so that remedial action can be taken or relevant supports put in place
  • To maintain records of any additional supports given to a learner and return these records with the learner portfolio
  • To advise the Training Unit of any Early Leavers so that the Training Unit can follow up with the learner to ascertain reasons why or to facilitate the learner in returning then or at some point in the future
  • To acknowledge receipt of Documents from the Training Unit
  • To store all learner details and portfolios confidentially and securely until such time as they are ready for submission to the Training Unit
