The Role of The Tutor

The tutor is a critical part of the success of any course we run. Tutors are selected on the basis of their knowledge, skills, training and experience relevant to the subject matter they are tutoring on.

For example, we always select tutors with a nursing qualification and background to deliver care related modules which involve practical care elements, depth and breadth of knowledge of different conditions as we feel only tutors with a nursing qualification are competent to deliver these modules.

Likewise for Patient Moving and Handling Training, tutors must hold a current Patient Moving and Handling Instructor qualification and First Aid tutors must be First Aid instructors.

Every tutor is selected firstly on the basis of their qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience but also for their personality, warmth, empathy and understanding. Every tutor is met individually by the Training Unit Manager and/or the Training & Development Officer to ascertain their suitability to deliver FETAC Accredited Quality Assured Training. It is very important to us that every learner feels supported, valued and cared for and that they receive consistent good quality training.

Being a Quality Assured Training Provider means a great deal to us and in order to retain our Quality Assurance status and to build on it to become the leading provider of care related training in Ireland takes commitment. This commitment requires us to be responsive to your needs as tutors, to support you in any way we can and to ensure that the foundation on which all of our training is delivered is solid and based on good practice guidelines. It also requires our tutors to be committed in supporting us in our endeavours by following these guidelines, by returning paperwork promptly and by giving us constructive feedback when required so that we can become even better at what we do.

Tutors must always be aware that whilst they are delivering training to Learners that they are representing The Carers Association. A Tutor who is professional, courteous, organised and efficient, warm and considerate of Learners is representing The Carers Association appropriately. We are committed to supporting our Tutors in any way we can to ensure that this standard is achieved.
