Combining FETAC Modules

A FETAC Level 5 Certificate or Major Award is achieved when you, the Learner, successfully achieve the required standard in 8 Modules or Minor Awards. The name of the FETAC Level 5 Major Award depends on what modules you have studied. There are four possible Major Awards that a learner could work towards in the Care Sector.

These are outlined as follows:-

Appendix 1 – Healthcare Support

Appendix 2 – Community Care

Appendix 3 – Community & Health Services

Appendix 4 – Nursing Studies

Basically, these modules tend to be a combination of the following types of Modules

1.     Vocational Modules (Modules that relate to working in a specific sector – for example modules relevant to providing care would be vocational modules for those interested in working in the care sector),

2.     General Studies Modules (these are Modules that would be relevant in any working environment and would add general breadth to the learning. Communications is nearly always required as one of these)

3.     Work Experience Module (this puts the learning into practice in a relevant work placement).

Depending on the Major Award that is required, some of these Modules may have to be done (Mandatory Modules must be done to achieve that particular Major Award) and others can be chosen (Elective Modules - depending on which area of care is of most interest to you, the learner. For example if you were interested in working in a Hospice or Palliative Care setting you might choose the FETAC Level 5 Palliative Care Module).

Please see in the following section examples of how modules can be combined to achieve major awards. This is not an exhaustive list.
