FETAC Level 5 Care Skills (D20163)
A FETAC Level 5 Component Certificate in Care Skills will be issued upon successful completion of assessments and course curriculum.

Course Aim
This module is designed to equip the learner with the skills and knowledge to care for clients in a safe and hygienic environment. This module is one of the mandatory modules which count towards the achievement of a Major FETAC Level 5 Award in Healthcare Support.
Specific Learning outcomes:
After successfully completing this module you will be able to:
- Recognise the personal care needs of clients
- Respond effectively to clients individual needs with their involvement and use of choice
- Acquire practical skills in the area of client personal care
- Maintain a safe and hygienic environment for clients
- Identify groups of people who need health care
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Understand how to enhance privacy, dignity, independence, positive self-image of the person in need of care
- Understand the physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual needs of those in need of care
- Respect client wishes and confidentiality
- Adapt levels of assistance to needs of particular clients
- Assist clients in use of sensory equipment such as hearing aids, dentures, glasses etc
- Use of mechanical aids and equipment
- Assist in use of aids that promote independence
- Demonstrate correct cleaning procedures
- Using approved patient moving & handling procedures
- Assisting clients with personal care tasks
- Assisting with maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for clients
- Understanding and preventing pressure sores
- Completing documentation and reporting on clients welfare and condition
