FETAC Level 5 Care Skills (D20163)
A FETAC Level 5 Component Certificate in Care Skills will be issued upon successful completion of assessments and course curriculum.

Up to 36 hours or 12 x 3 hour sessions

Course Aim 
This module is designed to equip the learner with the skills and knowledge to care for clients in a safe and hygienic environment. This module is one of the mandatory modules which count towards the achievement of a Major FETAC Level 5 Award in Healthcare Support. 

Specific Learning outcomes:

After successfully completing this module you will be able to:

  • Recognise the personal care needs of clients
  • Respond effectively to clients individual needs with their involvement and use of choice
  • Acquire practical skills in the area of client personal care
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment for clients
  • Identify groups of people who need health care
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understand how to enhance privacy, dignity, independence, positive self-image of the person in need of care
  • Understand the physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual needs of those in need of care
  • Respect client wishes and confidentiality
  • Adapt levels of assistance to needs of particular clients
  • Assist clients in use of sensory equipment such as hearing aids, dentures, glasses etc
  • Use of mechanical aids and equipment
  • Assist in use of aids that promote independence
  • Demonstrate correct cleaning procedures
  • Using approved patient moving & handling procedures
  • Assisting clients with personal care tasks
  • Assisting with maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for clients
  • Understanding and preventing pressure sores
  • Completing documentation and reporting on clients welfare and condition
